Twenty-seven new members, not seventeen

Elegance sets out to reach ninety-five members by March. The number the chapter has to recruit is larger than the gap, and the reason shapes everything that follows.

The chapter meeting room on a Thursday morning, seventy-odd members at round tables facing a speaker at the podium
Thursday, eight o'clock, Fortune Miramar. Eighty seats laid; fifteen to fill by March.

Ninety-five members by the thirty-first of March. Written down, it looks like seventeen more than today. It is not.

Thirty-five memberships come up for renewal inside this term. At the retention rate the chapter runs now, roughly ten will lapse. Every one has to be replaced before a single new member counts as growth. So the real number is twenty-seven.

At the conversion rate in the current reports, roughly one visitor in eight joins, and nineteen members would need about a hundred and fifty visitors. Nearly six a meeting, every meeting, for twenty-six weeks.

Forty-two of us brought no visitor at all in the last period. If thirty-six bring one each, most of the gap closes.

The plan moves two things at once. Visitors rise to a hundred and fifty across the term, nearly six a meeting, against ninety-nine in the last period. Conversion rises from 12.8 per cent to twenty-five. Another chapter in this region already runs twenty-five. Multiply the two and you get thirty-seven members: the nineteen we need, with room to spare.

That is why a member's first-ever visitor is worth forty points in the Power Team league, nearly three times a regular one. The people who get this chapter to ninety-five are not the six who already bring visitors every month. They are the forty-two who have not brought one yet.

The business side is in the same shape. Ten crore a month against five point six today, sixty crore across the term. Not a doubling, a rise of about eighty per cent, and most of it falls in November and March where the business actually is. One lifetime number is worth sitting with: the average referral here closed at seventy-seven thousand rupees. At that ticket, sixty crore in six months is eight thousand referrals. That is not the plan. Fewer, bigger, better-qualified introductions are, which is what Business Tuesdays are for.

The first Thursday of every month, three columns go on the screen: committed, achieved, gap. This paper carries the same three. Neither will flatter us.

Ministry of Referral Affairs confirms: 42 members have never met a visitor

In a statement described as "long overdue," the newly formed Ministry has confirmed that forty-two members went an entire reporting period without bringing a single visitor.

"We are not here to assign blame," said a spokesperson, before assigning it. "If thirty-six of those forty-two brought one guest each, the chapter would be most of the way to ninety-five and nobody would have to do anything unusual."

The Ministry has responded with a forty-point bounty on any member's first-ever visitor. Asked whether this constituted bribery, the spokesperson said: "Yes."

From the President

GAVIN DOMINIC XAVIER · PRESIDENT, BNI ELEGANCE NORTH GOA

Seventy-eight of us walk into the room on the first of October. The plan in these pages says ninety-five walk out of it on the twenty-fifth of March. I have read the arithmetic behind that number and I believe it, but arithmetic does not bring visitors. People do.

So here is what I am asking of every member this term, and it is only three things. Bring two visitors before March. Sit with your Power Team every Thursday, not just on your Focus Day. And log what you already do, because a referral that never reaches Connect never reaches the chapter score either.

The Leadership Team will put the numbers on the screen every month, whatever they say. Hold us to them. I would rather be embarrassed in November and right in March than comfortable all the way through.

Draft copy, awaiting approval.

From the Executive Director

MR RAJKUMAR KAMAT · EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, BNI GOA

Every chapter in Goa carries a number it does not talk about enough. For Elegance it is four hundred and fifty crore. That is what this room has passed between its members since it began, and it is the reason a visitor who walks in on a Thursday morning is walking into something real.

The term ahead asks two things of you. Bring the region more visitors, because a chapter that meets new people every week never runs out of new business. And convert them, because a visitor who does not join was a conversation, not a result.

Givers gain. It is not a slogan. It is arithmetic, and this chapter has four hundred and fifty crore of proof.

Draft copy, awaiting approval.

From the Support Director

AMEET D SAHAKARI · SUPPORT DIRECTOR, BNI ELEGANCE GOA

Over the next six months, BNI Elegance has set itself an ambitious target: ₹60 crores of business, and a stronger community of ninety-five referral partners.

Sixty crores will not happen because of one person. It will happen because ninety-five professionals decide to work together, support each other and create opportunities for each other. In BNI your success is never only your success; it becomes an opportunity for someone else.

My role as Support Director is simple. Support the members. Strengthen the relationships. Encourage referrals. Celebrate success. And keep the momentum going.

So let's make the next six months count. Ninety-five referral partners, sixty crores of business, one BNI Elegance family. When relationships become referrals and referrals become business, there is no limit to what this chapter can achieve.

Let's connect. Let's refer. Let's grow. Let's make ₹60 crores happen.

From the Deputy Area Director

ANDRE SHACKLETON · DEPUTY AREA DIRECTOR, BNI GOA

Twelve chapters meet in Goa North every week, and I see the numbers from all of them. The ones that grow are not the ones with the best speakers or the biggest room. They are the ones where the ordinary things happen every Thursday without anybody being asked: the referral slip filled in properly, the visitor followed up on Friday, the one-to-one that was promised actually kept.

Elegance is third of twelve today. The gap to the top is not talent. It is consistency, and consistency is the one thing a chapter can decide to have. A traffic light score of ninety-five is eighty members each doing one of everything, every week. Nothing in that sentence is difficult. All of it is deliberate.

So here is what the Area will be looking for from Elegance this term. Visitors in the room every week, not in bursts around Visitor Days. A Membership Committee that meets and reports. And renewals handled before the deadline, not chased after it. Do those three and the rest of the scorecard follows.

You have published your targets. That takes some nerve, and the region has noticed. Now make us print the same numbers in March.

Draft copy, awaiting approval.

How a round adds up

Your points from whatever the round doubles are doubled. Everything else you did counts once. Your team is all thirteen or fourteen of you added together, plus anything the team earned as a team.

Bring two visitors in Round One and that is thirty points, doubled to sixty. If one of them is your first-ever visitor, the twenty-five bonus makes it fifty-five, doubled to a hundred and ten. Nothing below depends on how big your business is.

How to win this round

Visitors count double until 29 October. A first-timer's visitor is worth eighty points to the team this month.

Full House at all five October meetings is a hundred points before anyone brings a guest.

Register every visitor on Connect before Thursday. Unregistered visitors do not score.

Book your first teammate 1-2-1 this week. Full Circle is seventy-eight per team and the term is only twenty-six weeks.

Team achievements

Full House, +20. All thirteen present or subbed at one meeting. Twelve scores nothing. Visitor Streak, +30. A visitor from the team at every meeting in a round. Full Circle, +50. Every member has met every teammate. Sports Day, +30. Saturday 5 December.

Round winners get a movie or dinner from the Leadership Team. The champion team gets an overnight stay.

Thursday at Elegance

A strip a month, drawn from life. October: the chapter goes to lunch, and Givers Gain meets the bill.

Six-panel comic strip. A table of members finish lunch and fight over the bill. One insists on paying, another says he paid last time, a third invokes Givers Gain. Two watching ask whether Givers Gain has a spending limit. Somebody lists who paid for coffee, booked the table and drove. One member asks an AI for the fairest solution and it says the person who benefited most should pay. The last panel: I thought Building Relationships meant sharing — today we are building your relationship with the cashier.

Starring Geoff, Himmy, Mich, Pinky, Raghu, Vinky and Vishy. Any resemblance to members of this chapter is entirely intentional. Next month: Sheetu's testimonial, and a lamp that will not switch off.

Dear Referral

My referral partner never tells me what happened. Do I chase?
Once, politely, on the slip itself. If the loop stays open after that, stop referring to them and say why at your next 1-2-1. A referral that vanishes teaches you not to give the next one.

I sent a substitute and they scored my points. Is that fair?
Yes. Your seat was filled, the team's Full House stayed alive, and the sub met eighty people. Send better subs.

I'm at 48. Am I Red or Amber?
Red. Amber starts at fifty. One visitor is five points. You know what to do this week.

If you are reading this as a guest

Welcome. This part is for you. Everything else on this page is the chapter talking to itself; this is the chapter talking to you.

What this is

BNI is a referral organisation. Seventy-eight business owners in this room meet every Thursday at eight in the morning for one reason: to pass each other business. One member per category, so nobody in the room competes with anybody else. Since this chapter began its members have passed each other seventy-one thousand referrals worth over four hundred and fifty crore.

How Thursday works

7.30Doors open at Fortune Miramar. Tea, open networking. Find the Visitor Host, they will find you a table.
8.00The meeting starts on time. It always does. Leadership Team introduced, visitors welcomed by name.
8.10Networking education, then every member has thirty seconds to say what they do and what they need this week.
8.40Visitors introduce themselves. Fifteen seconds, from your seat: who you are, what you do, one thing you need.
8.50Feature presentation from one member, then referrals, testimonials and closed business are passed in the open.
9.30Close. Stay for fifteen minutes; this is where the conversations happen.

What people ask

Do I have to speak?
Fifteen seconds, from your seat. Name, business, one thing you need. Nobody minds if you read it.

Is my category open?
Ask the Visitor Host before the meeting. One member per category. The Power Team pages name every member and the category they hold — if yours is not there, the seat is open.

What does it cost?
An annual fee plus the weekly meeting charge. The Visitor Host has the exact figures. Members will tell you what they got for it.

Can I come again?
Twice as a visitor. After that the chapter will ask you to decide.
